What is Coaching?

The ICF defines coaching as ‘partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.’ Coaching is not psychotherapy, mentoring or consulting, a coach will not advise or tell you what to do. If you have experienced trauma, please consult a therapist to get the right professional support for your situation.

Coaching is a collaborative process designed to help you find your right answers. It's a partnership that puts you at the centre of the conversation, with the belief that you are resourceful and have it within yourself to find your best way forward. No one knows you better than you know yourself. What is important and valuable to you, is not what is important and valuable to someone else, including me. You are special and unique. My job as your coach isn’t to tell you what to do, or how to do it, but to accompany, challenge and support you as you explore what you want for yourself.

I will provide a framework for the coaching conversation. I will hold what is and isn't being said, and curiously observe and question to elicit self-discovery. I will challenge and support you in learning about yourself and generating your own solutions and strategies, as well as holding you responsible and accountable for what you achieve.

Our journey together is designed to evoke growth, development and positive change. This will require work from both of us, and some discomfort along with the way. As Glennon Doyle in Untamed says, ‘Blessed are those brave enough to make things awkward, for they wake us up and move us forward.’ This is how we can grow.
